Easiest Blender Salsa

Learn here the easy way of making salsa with the Total Blendtec Blender.  This blender makes simple the process of making salsa, cookie dough, smoothies and everything else you may want.

It’s that time of year when the gardens are producing ripe veggies faster than you can deal with them.  It’s an exciting, but overwhelming experience.  Fortunately, there is a short cut for your tomatoes if you want some fresh salsa.

In Walmart’s canning section, which is usually by the housewares things, they sell Mrs. Wages salsa mix.  It comes in a 4 oz. pouch like taco seasoning or spaghetti sauce mix.  All you have to do is boil 18 medium sized tomatoes for 3 min, peel them and put them in your Blendtec Total Blender along with one Mrs. Wages salsa mix pouch.  Push the pulse button until the salsa is at your desired consistency.  Whala!   You have made fresh salsa in 5 minutes from your garden tomatoes.

Have more than 18 tomatoes?  Not a problem.  You can add ½ cup of vinegar to Mrs. Wages salsa, pulse it in your Blendtec with the tomatoes and sauce mix, and then pour it into freezer containers.  It is good for up to 1year!  No canning necessary!

This is stuff is a must have for busy schedules or the novice gardener and canner.   After all, Blendtec’s very simple control panel makes blending and storing delicious salsa easy for anyone.

Five a Day the Easy Way

My sister-in-law is a health care professional who recently was told that one of the best ways to loose weight is to exercise 30 minutes daily and eat any combination of 5 fruits and/or vegetables every day.

Curious, her husband decided to give it a try.  The results?  He did loose weight, but said eating 5 servings of fruits or vegetables daily was a lot harder than he thought it would be.

What he needed was a Blendtec Total Blender.  Every morning he could have blended up a smoothie made up of any combination of bananas, apples, strawberries, pineapple, mango, pomegranates, pears, or raspberries.  Fruit juices like cranberry juice, apple juice, or orange juice are also good to add to the mix.  A tomato or carrot also adds to the variety.  The left overs go in the fridge to enjoy throughout the day as lunch or a snack.

By blending your 5-a-day together, eating any 5 fruits or vegetables daily is quite simple because they are transformed into a delicious and very portable drink.  Blendtec blenders make it easy to do too because you don’t have to chop everything up before you put it in the blender, and it still produces a very “smooth smoothie”.

Now, that just leaves the 30 minutes of exercising….

Robyn’s Green Smoothie
Published 09/21/2007
Put 2 cups filtered water in the BlendTec Total Blender.

Optionally, add:
½ to 1 tsp. stevia (herbal sweetener) or 1/3 cup agave syrup (low glycemic index)
1/4 whole lemon, including peel (high in flavanoids)
2-3 Tbsp. fresh, refrigerated flax oil (omega-3 rich oil)

Gradually add greens until, briefly pureed, the mixture comes up to the 5-cup line (or less if you are “converting”):

½ to 1 lb. raw, washed greens:
spinach, chard, kale, collards are your mainstays
turnip, mustard, dandelion greens, arugula—use more sparingly, as they are spicy or bitter
lettuces and beet greens are also good—use freely
try avocado or cabbage or 1-2 stalks celery
For the adventurous, use edible weeds in nonsprayed fields: purslane has a mild flavor and vines along the ground everywhere; also use lambsquarter leaves, morning glory, and thistle more sparingly because they have a stronger taste.

Puree greens mixture for 90 seconds until very smooth.

Gradually add fruit until the container is completely full and blend 90 seconds or until well blended:
1-2 bananas to add a creamy texture and sweetness
1-2 cups frozen mixed berries (tastes wonderful and makes the smoothie purple rather than green)
any other fruit to taste: our favorites are pears and peaches, but also use apples, oranges, apricots, cantaloupe (with seeds—very high in antioxidants!), mango, pineapple, anything!

Robyn at has provided this recipe to get kale, collards, spinach, and chard into your daily diet–easily and without chewing and loading up on salad dressing. She’s a mom of four kids who each drink a pint every day!Makes approx. 8 cups of 100% raw smoothie.

Tips: For beginners and those trying to convert children, consider using LESS greens and MORE fruit (especially berries and bananas) in the beginning, gradually working up to a 50/50 ratio as described here. Use just the mild flavors in this transition phase, like spinach, kale, collards, and chard. Add a bit more water if you feel the smoothie is too thick.

Easy Way to Blend a Pineapple

Pineapples can be an intimidating fruit to cut up, especially for one with very little pineapple cutting experience.  There are various gadgets on the market to help cut and core pineapple, but there is no need to remove the core if you’re blending with a Blendtec Total Blender! That makes one more kitchen gadget the Blendtec blender can replace!

To initially “get into” the pineapple, cut off the top and bottom, then slice the scales off the sides. Cut into discs, and then cut the discs into wedges. Refrigerate or freeze if you won’t be using them immediately. Good Luck!
